Welcome to the May 2005 edition of MED Magazine, the monthly webzine of the Macmillan English Dictionaries resource site.

In April 2005 a new dictionary, Phrasal Verbs Plus, was added to the Macmillan English Dictionaries family. To mark the publication, in the feature article, Editor-in-Chief Michael Rundell discusses the help this new dictionary offers to learners of English in understanding and using phrasal verbs.

In the Language Awareness series this month you can find out more about metaphor. Read this article to see how the Macmillan English Dictionary provides useful information on common metaphorical language in the unique Metaphor Boxes.

We continue the short series of tips for using web-based corpora in the classroom with an article on WebCorp, a powerful search tool available on the Internet.

In our regular new words column author Kerry Maxwell takes a look at words that have been made popular through films and their Hollywood success.

Spring marks the beginning of a number of outdoor sporting events. Play the interactive games included in this issue to practise and improve your vocabulary of popular sports such as tennis, football and basketball.

Use the index page to browse the complete contents of the back issue of MED Magazine and try out the new Google search of the complete archive. For the covers of previous editions, go to this page.
