Welcome to the July 2005 issue of MED Magazine, the webzine of the Macmillan English Dictionaries resource site.

In this summer edition of the webzine we begin a new short series of feature articles on the topic of phrasal verbs. These will explore common views held by both students and teachers on the difficulty of learning phrasal verbs. The first article discusses to what extent phrasal verbs are random and unpredictable.

You can read more about phrasal verbs in the Focus on Phrasal Verbs article, which explains the key characteristics of the grammar of prepositional and phrasal-prepositional verbs.

In previous issues of MED Magazine we have explored American English and Australian English neologisms. This month we take a look at Hinglish – a blend of Hindi and English – that in recent years has contributed words to the vocabulary of English.

We continue the corpora tips series with an article about Web Concordancer and offer some practical tips on using this online research tool in the classroom.
