In this Issue

Welcome to the 34th edition of MED Magazine, the online magazine of the Macmillan Dictionaries resource site.

The new feature Your Questions Answered introduced in the September issue proved popular and inspired many of our readers to send in queries relating to a wide range of topics, from the meaning of words to how one can become a lexicographer. We bring you a selection of these questions and answers in this issue.

The corpora tips article provides helpful tips and advice on how to use the British National Corpus to search for examples of spoken language, and in which ways these can be exploited for classroom use.

In the feature article, author Jonathan Marks reveals some interesting facts – and fiction – about the use of phrasal verbs in written and spoken language.

The Focus on Phrasal Verbs series brings you information about phrasal verbs and pronunciation. It gives a practical summary, with examples, of the main types of stress pattern characteristic of phrasal verbs and noun and adjective derivatives.

The topic of the new words column is euphemisms. Here you can read about the most recent euphemistic terms created in the English language.

As usual, you can freely browse the back issues of this online magazine, and if you would like to read more about a particular topic, or other articles in a current or past series, you will find the index useful.

If you would like to suggest topics for future issues, or if you have comments relating to articles already published, you can contact us by filling in the form on this page.
